Born in 1946, a bulge baby, Mick first went to art school in 1963 for a foundation year and followed on with a three year course at The London College of Printing studying Advertising photography. There followed a couple of years as an assistant photographer to Eric Mandel, a fashion and still life smudger. And then he was off on his own…
By 1972 he had his own studio in Covent Garden and became known for his food and still life phography. It has always been a love of lighting that influenced his work. By the 1980’s he was also directing TV commercials, often in Europe and the USA. But by 2000 he’d had enough and liquidated his assets, downsized and went back to art school, gaining a First class honours degree in Fine Art painting.
He’s never looked back.
His degree show was a sellout and subsequently he has exhibited in London and other parts of England, France and the USA. He has won various art prizes and awards at the Mall galleries and currently shows at Gallery Different in Percy Street London W.1.
Lockdown caused a change of direction for Mick, no longer able to lurk in the old industrial parts of London, especially in Wapping and along the Thames, he had to adapt to painting what he experienced on long dog walks in various woods around London and Scotland….the results are his current body of work seen here.
